Building for the rugged beauty of the mountain west.
Grizzly Basin Builders performs new construction and remodels across Idaho and Montana, built to hold up to real mountain winters and real mountain families.
A ground-up custom home, built to live in the trees.
This full custom build pairs weathered, oxidized metal panels with stainless steel details and rich fir cabinetry throughout. It's the project that set the bar for how we build — from the fireplace wall to the last stair tread.
The kitchen pairs oxidized metal panels with stainless steel and rich fir cabinetry, built around one long island with a sea glass bar countertop and a run of windows that catches the evening light.
A showcase in detailed finish carpentry.
This custom home is a study in the details — hand-built wainscoting with decorative rope inlay trim running through the dining room and hallway, a library ladder and built-in bookshelf unit, and an exterior finished in stone and copper roof detailing.
A remodel that brought the house into a new century with modern design and touches.
This remodel reworked the kitchen around a new material palette. The kitchen opened up from a closed-off galley into a space built around a new island with concrete countertops, galvanized metal paneling, and a live-edge wood bar counter, pairing multiple building material mediums in the design. Drag the photos below to see the change.
A dated master bath, rebuilt as a retreat.
The old bathroom was a tired, closed-in layout with a small stall shower and a jetted corner tub. Rebuilt with meticulously laid complementary tile around a freestanding soaking tub, full glass walk-in shower bringing much needed light and class.
A full kitchen and living space transformation.
We removed a closet and a dividing wall to open the galley kitchen and living room into one great space, rebuilt with white cabinetry, butcherblock counters, and a subway tile backsplash, anchored by a large island that serves as both gathering area and centerpiece.
Decks.
Decks are a favorite filler project for summer months and the warm sunshine. Here is a collection of deck builds, from front entries to elevated backyard spaces.
Front Entry Deck
A full front entry rebuild with painted white railings, composite decking, and copper rain chains for a clean, classic look.
Wooded Lot Deck
A front deck built into a wooded lot, with black metal railings and tight, clean composite decking lines.
Elevated Backyard Deck
A second-story deck built on new posts over the patio below, finished with a black metal railing system and cedar cap rail.
Based in the Rockies, rooted in excellence.
Founder Chris Erickson got his start long ago learning to build pole barn style in a remote area of Alaska as a summer job straight out of high school. He was mentored and built an art gallery and foundry for an artist in the area and fell in love with wood work at the same time.
He returned home to Idaho and worked for several years in a custom cabinet and furniture shop, crafting and installing incredibly unique cabinet builds. He went on to build custom architectural houses, eventually branching off on his own. Today he leads with experience and a knack for problem solving and thinking outside the box.
